Day 2 - "Guardians of the Iori Valley"

Prepare for an exhilarating day as we embark on an expedition to encounter three legendary fortresses: Verona, Bochorma, and Ujarma, nestled amidst the majestic Iori Valley. This day hike offers a perfect blend of captivating trails and awe-inspiring locations. Our first stop leads us to Verona Fortress, where its evocative ruins stand as a testament to its former grandeur. Although time has weathered its might, the scenic trail winding through captivating landscapes will undoubtedly leave an indelible impression.
Next, we venture towards the fortress town of Bochorma, a serene sanctuary steeped in tranquility. The ascent to the fortress, adorned by a verdant, dappled forest, offers a scenic journey of enchanting beauty. In addition to the architectural marvels and ancient structures, Bochorma entices with idyllic picnic spots, evocative photo opportunities, and a collection of intriguing, otherworldly trees. But the journey continues, leading us to our final destination of the day - Ujarma. Regrettably, many pass by this extraordinary site in haste, failing to relish its captivating allure. Beyond the upper fortress, brimming with fascinating relics, lies a cascading lower fortress, descending gracefully towards the tranquil banks of the Iori River. Here, an exquisite carved wooden house stands in harmonious coexistence with playful raccoons, creating an enchanting atmosphere that is nothing short of magical. As twilight falls, we retreat to the Old Town of Tbilisi, where a delightful dinner awaits, providing a fitting conclusion to this captivating day of exploration.

✅ Day 3 - "Mtskheta: Before and After the Birth of Christ"

In the vicinity of the ancient Georgian capital Mtskheta, nestled within the picturesque Armashev valley, lies the secluded haven of Armazi Monastery and its eponymous fortress. It is to these sacred sites that our footsteps shall be directed on this day. The trail, though narrow, winds its way alongside a meandering river, offering a breathtaking panorama. Though Armazi Fortress bears the scars of time's passage, it continues to beckon visitors who seek solace amidst the splendor of nature. The southern portion of this venerable monument houses the principal Tower, its triangular form gracefully softened by rounded corners. Regrettably, access to the Tower is no longer feasible due to the collapse of inter-floor structures, thereby blocking the staircase. Our return journey takes us to the Armazi Monastery, a testament to the architectural heritage of early medieval Georgia. Within this tranquil and serene enclave, one can revel in the captivating vistas that encompass the surrounding environs, including the city of Mtskheta.
Concluding our trek, we find respite and indulgence in a southern riverside eatery, partaking in the delights of Georgian cuisine and wine. Our odyssey continues with an excursion to Mtskheta, culminating in the resplendent sunset at Jvari Monastery, renowned for its panoramic view of the confluence of the Kura and Aragvi rivers.
Total trail distance: 9 kilometers, Elevation gain: 300 meters

✅ Day 4 - "The Golden Gates"

Perched upon a lofty mountaintop, seemingly embraced by the ethereal realm of clouds, stands a monastery. The path leading to this sanctuary is neither near nor effortless. Yet, if there exists an earthly paradise, it resides there. An atmosphere of profound tranquility, grandeur, and isolation pervades this sacred abode, harmoniously uniting humankind with the divine. Stepping foot within this hallowed sanctuary, the ceaseless flow of time surrenders to stillness, leaving naught but the expanse of the heavens, the sanctuary's sanctuary, and one's contemplative thoughts. From atop its rooftop, one can linger for hours, mesmerized by the majestic mountains, engaging in heartfelt conversations with venerable sages, or simply immersing oneself in introspection. Departure from this sacred haven proves arduous, while the yearning for its return remains incessant. The trail, though not unduly challenging, demands endurance, especially during the nascent embrace of spring or the waning days of autumn when snow blankets much of the path. In exchange for such perseverance, one is rewarded with an ineffable sense of serenity, awe-inspiring vistas that grace the journey, and the opportunity to forge connections with extraordinary souls. As twilight descends, weary but contented from the day's trek, we convene for an evening repast at a restaurant nestled in the embrace of Aragvi before retiring to our accommodations.

The Chaukhi River cascades into this pristine oasis, accompanied by a gentle murmuring waterfall, imbuing the lake's shores with an alpine tapestry adorned with delicate blooms. The trail, meandering through this resplendent terrain, bestows upon intrepid explorers vistas of unparalleled beauty, a veritable feast for the senses. Upon our return, we journey to Stepantsminda, where the splendor of Gergeti Monastery awaits, offering the most iconic view of Mount Kazbek.
