One-day excursion "Megaliths of Khrami river"

Tsalka and Tsalka Reservoir are not the most popular tourist destinations, but it's a missed opportunity! Besides the well-known Dashbashi Canyon with its waterfalls, there are many other interesting locations here, and the most notable among them are the megaliths of Tedjisi, Avranlo, Nardevani, and petroglyphs from the Mesolithic period. That's where we're headed.

The most significant object, according to astroarchaeologists, is the megalithic settlement of Tedjisi. It has been the subject of several international expeditions, but its mystery is yet to be solved.

The megalithic fortress of Avranlo is surrounded by mysterious caves and numerous small chapels and churches, likely for a reason.

And the petroglyphs astonish with the ancient people's attentiveness and their ability to convey their vision of the surrounding world.

Excursion program:

  • Tedjisi Megaliths - on the edge of the village of the same name, up the hill, on the plateau, there is a large megalithic structure. It consists of two rings of large stones, one to the north and the other to the south. In the center of the northern ring is the Christian hall church of St. Constantine, surrounded by megalithic fences. The church itself is also built with megalithic stones. Inside, there is a large menhir with a carved cross on it.
  • Beshdasheni Waterfall - a beautiful place to escape from noise and heat and commune with nature. It's a powerful waterfall in the spring, but calm and peaceful during the rest of the year. Near the waterfall are the remains of a cyclopean settlement.
  • Fish tasting in Tsalka - excellent fish dishes in a family restaurant in Tsalka.
  • Avranlo Megaliths and Caves - Tsalka is a mysterious land of the so-called megalithic belt. This area is the base of the Trialeti culture (2,000 BC). Avranlo Fortress is a megalithic structure in the Tsalka municipality, on the left bank of the Ktsia River, at an altitude of 1,640 meters above sea level. It dates back to the last quarter of the 1st millennium BC.
  • Nardevani Megalithic Settlement - a fortress of square shape built with cyclopean masonry, the main part of which has internal dimensions of 18 x 21.5 meters. The thickness of the defensive walls is 3.5-4 meters.
  • Tsalka Petroglyphs - examples of prehistoric rock art and the only petroglyphs of this type in Georgia. They date back to various periods, starting from the Mesolithic and ending with the Middle Bronze Age.
  • Dinner in the mountains (optional) - Tired but full of impressions, returning to Tbilisi, we can stop for a late dinner at a restaurant overlooking the capital. Pine grove, a fantastic view of the night city, and delicious Georgian cuisine will be a wonderful farewell chord to our excursion.
